On The Path

"Freedom is like a contagious disease."

"It is transmitted; its carrier is an impeccable nagual. People might not appreciate that, and that's because they don't want to be free. Freedom is frightening. Remember that. But not for us. I've groomed myself nearly all my life for this moment. And so will you."

“All that is required is impeccability, energy, and that begins with a single act that has to be deliberate, precise, and sustained. If that act is repeated long enough, one acquires a sense of unbending intent, which can be applied to anything else. If that is accomplished the road is clear. One thing will lead to another until the warrior realizes his full potential.”
                                                                                           Carlos Castaneda~The Fire From Within

How do we know we are on the path? Many of us recognize moments when “Spirit” tapped us to engage with a larger reality of being. They are personal, quite intimate experiences of energy, wholeness or something that we recognize as beyond the ordinary. This is our call to explore a greater reality, to begin a journey designed to unfold our personal wholeness, each step leading to the next until we realize our full potential.

Referred to by different names in the spiritual and psychological traditions in which it is often addressed, the path of individuation and the warrior’s path with heart, this is hearing the call. How do we know when we have begun the journey? Our world seems to unravel. We engage the unconscious, the larger reality of who we are, which may be accompanied by a surreal feeling as we walk the path. Unconscious contents of the psyche enter awareness revealing unclaimed aspects of ourselves necessary for wholeness.

The call to reengage with unbroken wholeness has begun, and the universe, Indra’s net and its lines of energy, organizes to support this unfolding. This is our opportunity to reconnect the luminous fibers of our being with all of sentient experience; we become fluid beings in a magical world, opening to life.

“‘The kingdom of God is within you’…Life itself is within you, and always available.  It is only a question of learning how to open to it, to relinquish the tight fist that holds you seemingly separate.”                                                                                 Julie  Henderson~The Lover Within

Each of us has a unique way to access the unconscious, to honor its energy in our lives and in our bodies. It becomes our task to find what we do or feel that opens the doors, a single “deliberate, precise, sustained” act begins the journey. The body is our navigator. Intimately connected with the underlying sentient reality, it recognizes and honors personal limitations, finding the most efficient manner to engage with the unbroken wholeness of being.  When we find tools that work for us, our commitment to this path means that we return to these tools again and again… as they take us deeper into the underlying reality of being, revealing our next steps on the path.  Returning to the body, we return the gifts of our journey to the Earth in service to a greater wholeness unfolding.

"When the great swing has taken an individual into the world of symbolic mysteries, nothing comes of it, nothing can come of it, unless it has been associated with the earth, unless it has happened when that individual was in the body... And so individuation can only take place if you first return to the body, to your earth, only then does it become true."

Wings of Summer

Vee line of geese wing slowly
through damp gray skies.
Drawing light upon their wingtips,
they are carriers of summer,
north and south.

Part of the flock,
my mind follows,
witness to the fallen.
What losses
must be sustained
for balance?

Let me join as they
cradle this earth with
the pulsing rhythm of flight,
rising on the carnelian dawn
over waters holding earth
and rich, green life.

Wonder floods in, a sense of place.
We know this,
the moment we are called
to land in the arms of
the familiar.

Thrill of recognition,
spruce beckons
with blue-green needles,
the shimmer
of water over stone
draws us earthward.
Sometimes those eyes
flooding us with warmth
are all we need
to come home.

But we leave
to ride the currents,
join the legions
washing the world clean
with strong, beating wings.
We draw the light behind us,
counting our losses,
creation balanced
on the sharp arrow of flight.
